Lou Congelio is one of the most prolific and highly decorated creative talents in the Houston advertising community. In over 30 years, he has written and produced many award-winning radio and television commercials. More importantly, his work has helped his clients succeed and grow. From 1978 to 1983, Lou worked as a writer/producer for Houston agency McCann-Erickson where he worked on national and local retail accounts including The University of Houston, Exxon, Six Flags AstroWorld, Whataburger, Texas State Optical, Houston Coca-Cola Bottlers, Louisiana Coca-Cola Bottlers, Wilson Foods, Gordon Jewelers, Big A Auto Parts and Certi-Car Auto Repair. In 1984 Lou joined forces with W.B. Doner in Houston to work on the Lone Star beer and Pizza Hut accounts. In 1985, W.B. Doner/Houston decided to move their Houston creative team to corporate offices in Baltimore. Lou decided to stay in Houston and was quickly scooped up by Taylor Brown & Barnhill. He was hired as head writer/executive producer on the Foley’s account. Lou also worked with Conoco, Safeway, Hi/Lo Auto Supply, Allied Bancshares, KRBE Radio, Rotan Mosle, Clean Houston, Westin Hotels of Houston, Continental Airlines, Houston Proud and Splashtown. Having worked at all the top Houston advertising agencies, Lou decided that maybe it was time to test the waters for himself. So with long-time friend and fellow writer Stan Mays, Stan and Lou opened up their own creative services firm. And the name they most modestly chose for their company was Stan & Lou, Inc. Lou bought out Stan in 1996 when Stan was asked to take over as Advertising Manager for Stan & Lou client, the Coastal Corporation. In 2007, Lou welcomed Michelle Reed as a full partner in the firm and vice president of Strategic Services. Most recently, Lou has served as chairman on the board of directors for AAF-Houston (formerly the Houston Advertising Federation) and is the founder of the Only in Houston movement, a committee of AAF - Houston that exclusively promotes the creative and marketing talents of individuals and companies based in the Houston area. After 20 years, Lou Congelio remains the driving force behind Stan & Lou Advertising and continues to be known in the advertising industry, for creating exciting, attention-getting, award-winning advertising that gets results. But perhaps Mickey Rosmarin of Tootsies said it best; "They're slow but expensive."
