CHECKFREE COMPETE™ ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN EARNS HONORS AT ADVERTISING FEDERATION ADDY AWARDS
Monday, March 12th, 2007CheckFree Health and Fitness, a business unit of CheckFree Corporation (Nasdaq: CKFR) earned multiple Certificates of Merit at the 45th Annual ADDY Awards presented by the Houston Advertising Federation. The campaign recognized, “CheckFree Compete Teaser,” supported the launch of CheckFree Compete™ health club management software. The campaign was developed by Houston-based advertising agency STANANDLOU Marketing//Advertising.
STANANDLOU was approached by CheckFree to create a teaser campaign to generate interest prior to the launch of the new software solution. A challenge faced by STANANDLOU was that the product name and features could not be used in the advertising campaign until the product was further into development. The ads had to create interest, discourage potential customers from purchasing alternative software, and sustain interest over a three-month window until the product launch.
“We needed an innovative ad campaign that could stop customers in their tracks, and STANANDLOU delivered beyond our expectations,” said Randy Ivey, Director of Marketing for CheckFree Health and Fitness. “CheckFree Compete is a revolutionary new platform that provides clubs with the tools needed to reduce front desk training, minimize operating expenses, and provide an exceptional member experience. The ad campaign had to convince health club owners and managers that the software was worth waiting for.”
“We’re proud of the CheckFree Compete campaign and our association with CheckFree,” said STANANDLOU Marketing/Advertising President Lou Congelio. “Their software solution deserves to be in the spotlight and, as their ad agency, we’ve enjoyed playing a role in building the CheckFree brand and contributing to their continued success.”

REGGIE BIBBS NOMINATED FOR GOLD ADDY FOR A PUBLIC SERVICE CAMPAIGN
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007A Houstonian’s one-man campaign to call attention to a disfiguring neurological disorder is not only gaining ground but also winning recognition. On Feb. 17, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel downtown, Reggie Bibbs‘ marketing campaign will vie against advertising professionals at the 45th Annual ADDY Awards presented by the Houston Advertising Federation.
The inspiration for Reggie’s unique campaign came after years of public frustration.
“I have neurofibromatosis. It’s a disorder that causes tumors to grow along my nervous system,” stated Bibbs. “In my case, it’s fairly disfiguring. When I would go out in public, people would stare or, worse, walk away. So I came up with an idea for a t-shirt and the rest, as they say, is history.”
With the help of a friend at a local advertising agency, Reggie Bibbs created a t-shirt that would invite people to come up and talk to Reggie about his disorder. “I figured the more they knew about my disease, the more they would understand me,” added Bibbs.
Reggie Bibbs was born with Neurofibromatosis. Doctors noticed a tiny tumor on his eye, and then on his heel. Later, they found a small tumor on the roof of his mouth. Reggie’s mother thought nothing of it. But when she tried to put his shoes on, she noticed it was more difficult to put his left shoe on than his right shoe. “I’d cry when she’d try, ” he said.
NF is not a rare disorder, it is the most common neurological disorder caused by a single cell. Neurofibromatosis is a genetically-determined disorder that affects more than 100,000 Americans; this makes NF more prevalent than Cystic Fibrosis, heredity Muscular Dystrophy, Huntington’s Disease and Tay Sachs combined. The mortality rate for people with NF is higher than that of the healthy population because of the increased potential of malignant transformation of diseased tissues and the development of neurofibrosarcoma.
“When Reggie called me with the idea for a t-shirt that read, “Just Ask!” I literally had tears in my eyes,” said long-time friend Lou Congelio, president of STANANDLOU Advertising. “The idea was so simple and so powerful that I immediately offered him a position in the company,” Congelio added.
The t-shirt features on the front an abstract outline of Reggie’s face and, on the back, large type that simply says, “JUST ASK!”. Also included on the back is the url for Reggie’s website, www.reggiebibbs.com.
“We figured he would need a business card to go with the shirt with an explanation of what NF was. Then everything kind of snowballed from there,” said Lou Congelio. “Then we figured a website would be the quickest, most efficient way to get out the information about NF so we designed one of those.”
The project quickly grew to include links to Flickr.com to show Reggie’s photographs, a link to YouTube to show his TV commercials, and most importantly, a link to his blog where Reggie adds daily posts. Soon the website will have an online store so that he can start earning a living while raising awareness of NF.
“I am really excited about the Addy Award nomination. Winning would be a great honor, not just for me, but for everyone else who has NF. People with NF and other disfiguring conditions find it difficult to do everyday tasks, and this site increases public understanding of the hurdles that we have to overcome,” said Bibbs.
“If we win, I will accept the award on behalf of Ronnie, my brother who had NF and cancer. He died in September of 2006, and I miss him a lot,” said Bibbs.
Reggie’s t-shirt, business card and website was recognized and nominated out of 850 entries submitted by 60 different ad agencies, design firms and consultants.

STANANDLOU floats new campaign for Harbercraft Boats
Tuesday, November 29th, 2005STANANDLOU Marketing/Advertising recently launched a new campaign for Harbercraft – the Vernon, British Columbia-based maker of premium aluminum boats.
The campaign, which will appear in fishing and boating magazines in the Pacific Northwest and in Canada, features headlines that talk to the serious fisherman paired with picturesque shots of Harbercraft boats on the water.
“Our research showed that Harbercraft customers love to fish and want a boat that’s built to last,” said STANANDLOU’s Chief Operating Officer, Bill Penczak. “The print campaign communicates a tough attitude and a deep understanding of what makes fishing so important in the lives of our customers – both of which appeal to the target market.”
The campaign was developed after extensive online and focus group research in California, Oregon, Washington, British Colombia, and Alberta.
“Were extremely excited about rolling out the campaign STANANDLOU created for us,” explained Harbercaft Director of Marketing Joe Baker. “It’s exactly the type of campaign that we think will break through the clutter of fishing and boating magazines and speak to consumers.”

STANANDLOU ADVERTISING CREATES TV CAMPAIGN FOR MARBLE SLAB CREAMERY
Thursday, May 1st, 2003(HOUSTON) – STANANDLOU Marketing and Advertising recently completed a 30-second television commercial for Marble Slab Creamery, a nationwide group of more than 370 ice cream stores based in Houston, Texas. The spot introduces Marble Slab’s new positioning line, “The One. The Only. The Original.®” to reaffirm its leadership role in the premium ice cream market.
The spot features a mother and son visiting “Wooden Board Creamery,” a fictional Marble Slab competitor. The owner of Wooden Board Creamery claims to have the freshest ice cream in town, but after a series of funny substitutions for Marble Slab’s signature features (mixins, waffle cones and toppings), the customers discover that nothing is quite the same as The Original— Marble Slab Creamery.
“We are quite excited about this spot,” noted Richie Hankamer, vice president of Marble Slab Creamery. “It really gets to the heart of what we want our customers to know: that there’s simply no substitute for Marble Slab ice cream. And, it conveys that message in a funny, engaging way.”
“It’s a fun spot but, more importantly, it positions Marble Slab Creamery as the leader in the very competitive superpremium ice cream market,” said Lou Congelio, president of STANANDLOU. “There are a lot of imitators out there and we felt the need to remind our customers who our competitors are imitating and why. For the freshest, best tasting ice cream in the world, Marble Slab Creamery truly is “The One. The Only. The Original.®”

STANANDLOU ADVERTISING COOKS UP NEW ENTRE INTO ADVERTISING FOR ALONTI.
Tuesday, July 16th, 2002(HOUSTON) Alonti, the locally-based quick-serve specialty café, recently awarded its national advertising account to Stan and Lou Advertising after a review of agencies. The restaurants specialize in serving office workers in large building complexes, and are looking to expand their customer base through their established catering and delivery services. Currently, Alonti operates in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Chicago, New York and College Station, TX.
“This is the first long-term advertising agency relationship we’ve ever pursued,” said Al Pepi, president of Alonti. “So, we took a look at a wide range of agencies to pick the one that best suited our growth goals. The Stan and Lou team impressed us with their prior successes in the food-service industry and their ability to service national accounts while maintaining a close-knit team.”
Pepi noted that Alonti’s current positioning, “Fresh Food Fast,” had lost its ability to distinguish the Alonti brand over the years, as more and more quick-serve restaurants attempted to offer freshly prepared items of their own.
“Alonti has great food and a very loyal following. Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to reach out beyond their core to a broader audience,” said Stan and Lou President, Lou Congelio. “Our first goal is to increase awareness of the Alonti brand throughout the business districts they operate in. We will produce promotional materials to grow their daily breakfast and lunch customer base while also increasing awareness of and excitement for their office delivery and catering business.”
“Alonti has aggressive growth goals,” added Tammy Guest, vice president of Stan and Lou Advertising. “The fact that they’ve grown to this size with little advertising is testament to their quality and value. But they realized that to lead their category nationally, they’d have to build a relationship with an advertising agency whose culture matched their own. We feel we’re well positioned to help Alonti build on their strengths, and to grow along with them.”
In reviewing agencies for the account, Alonti considered undisclosed local, regional and national agencies. Experience in the category, national media capabilities, client service and overall creative product weighed heavily in the process.
“Choosing an ad agency can be a bit daunting. There’s a lot of great talent in Houston and great strategic minds,” said Pepi. “We were impressed that we had such varied options here to manage this account, with capabilities to stay with it as the account grows.”
Stan and Lou Advertising anticipates initial roll-out of the new advertising, public relations and promotional strategies by late summer or early fall.
About Alonti: Alonti was founded in 1974 as a gourmet grocery and accessory store in Houston’s Greenway Plaza office complex. Family-owned since its founding, it continues today as a quick-serve restaurant and café, under President Al Pepi, son of founders Al and Cecile Pepi. Alonti cafés are primarily located in busy office complexes and cater to the workers there. They offer a wide range of freshly prepared dishes for take-out, delivery, dine-in or catering.

STANANDLOU ADVERTISING IS ON A ROLL WITH TWO NEW BUSINESS WINS
Tuesday, May 21st, 2002(HOUSTON) Stan and Lou Advertising recently added two new names to its client roster with the addition of The Houston-Area Volkswagen Dealer Group and The Lanier Law Firm. Total projected billings are estimated at $1M.
The Houston-Area Volkswagen Dealers chose Stan and Lou Advertising to work on the association’s local radio and television promotions. “We looked at a lot of agencies in town and felt Stan and Lou best fit the creative culture of the Volkswagen brand,” noted Kirk Franceschini, President of the Association. “The spec creative they presented to us was right on the money — creative, unexpected and relevant. We felt Stan and Lou truly understood the product and what we were trying to achieve. In fact, we’re using the concept of the spec work for the first promotion”
“We are extremely excited and flattered by our new relationship with the Houston-area Volkswagen Dealers, stated Lou Congelio, Stan and Lou President. “They needed local creative representation that could respond quickly and economically to their day-to-day promotional needs while still maintaining the quirky tone of the national advertising. It was right up our alley.”
Stan and Lou’s first assignment is a radio and TV campaign promoting a $189/month lease on the New Beetle and Jetta. The two TV spots feature actual owners of the cars as they drive around town talking about life, their car and the promotion. “Our assignment was to continue the feel of the national spots, produced by Arnold Worldwide, while also introducing this great leasing offer,” explained Congelio. “So we just drove around town with a cameraman in the passenger seat and the sound guy and myself in the back and went for it.”
“There was no script, no beauty shots of the car, just honest, fun, sometimes quirky, candid reactions to my questions and interesting observations about the car and why they loved it,” Congelio added. “And, they truly do love their cars! My favorite comment was when Dominique, the owner of the New Beetle, pointed out where she goes to pick up guys. Of course, as she quickly added, she was just kidding.”

Work has also begun for The Lanier Law Firm account after a search of leading local advertising agencies recently concluded with Stan and Lou Advertising as the firm’s choice.
“We spent a significant amount of time and energy researching and talking to many of the major Houston advertising agencies,” commented Kevin Roberts, Vice President at Lanier. “We chose Stan and Lou based on their creativity, reputation and, especially, their people.”
Roberts added, “We were looking for a long-term, creative marketing partner to lead us in a major re-branding effort. Once I saw what they did with their own marketing and identity materials, I was convinced they were the right agency for us. ”
“With Lanier’s recent name change, new address and recent successes, now was the perfect opportunity to review their current marketing materials and revamp accordingly,” noted Tammy Guest, Vice President of Stan and Lou. “The Lanier Law Firm has become a major, national player in litigation and our charge is to insure their marketing and collateral materials reflect this new identity.”
The agency has begun work on a new identity package for the firm along with print and collateral materials.

STANANDLOU ADVERTISING GREETS THE NEW YEAR WITH THREE NEW BUSINESS WINS
Tuesday, January 29th, 2002Houston — Stan and Lou Advertising has gained $2 million in new billings with the addition of three new clients. The 18-person shop in Houston, Texas, won all three accounts in separate reviews in the last month of 2001.
The list of new accounts include Tortuga Coastal Cantina, a regional Mexican restaurant chain owned by Mexican Restaurants, Inc.; Tootsies, an upscale women’s wear boutique specializing in designer wear and couture; and Crisis Intervention, a non-profit organization providing a 24-hour telephone hotline, corporate counseling services and referrals. The agency will provide a full range of advertising services including print and television production, media placement, collateral, and internet development.
Tortuga Coastal Cantina chose Stan and Lou based on the agency’s success with the Monterey’s Tex-Mex Cafe and Little Mexico brands in 2001, both restaurants under the Mexican Restaurants, Inc. banner. “Stan and Lou basically came in and revamped our marketing efforts with the introduction of quarterly promotions, in-store events, contests and bounce-back programs,” noted Kim Hankamer, Marketing Director of Mexican Restaurants, Inc. “Anyone who can produce monthly double-digit sales increases is certainly somebody we want on our Tortuga team.”
“Tortuga has built a tremendous following by offering quality Mexican food in a fun, wholesome environment,” noted Lou Congelio, President of Stan and Lou. “Our primary goal is to increase awareness of the Tortuga brand and promote the quality of their food through a testimonial campaign and a new tagline, “Simply great Mexican food.”
Initial work for Tortuga will center around a new television campaign and a revamped menu and collateral package.
Tortuga Coastal Cantina is a part of a concept theme of restaurants run by Mexican Restaurants, Inc. which currently has 51 company restaurants and 35 franchise restaurants operating in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Idaho and Michigan.
Tootsies selected Stan and Lou based on work produced by the agency several years ago for the client. “We are delighted once again to be working with Tootsies,” stated Congelio. “We produced some work for them in the 90’s that remains to this day some of our most creative and successful advertising.”
“We talked to a few agencies in Dallas and Houston but Stan and Lou were the only ones who truly understood us,” reported Mickey Rosmarin, owner of Tootsies. “We have a very unique customer and a very unique store. Stan and Lou gets it!”
The agency will begin work on a variety of projects including a new Spring Image Campaign and a direct mail/internet Prom promotion.
Stan and Lou was also tapped by Crisis Intervention of Houston to head a new branding initiative reintroducing Crisis Intervention’s services to potential users and volunteers. Crisis Intervention is a non-profit organization providing 24-hour telephone counseling and referral services.
“We had a lot of stressful events in 2001,” noted Shari Koziol, Executive Director of Crisis Intervention . “Between the September terrorist attacks, the flood, layoffs and the recession, there are many people in Houston who are deeply affected and need someone with whom they can talk. Unfortunately, many people don’t even know we exist.”
“We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen by Crisis Intervention to head their awareness push,” stated Congelio. “They are an incredible group of people providing a much needed and under utilized, free service to Houston. We are honored to be asked to help.”
Stan and Lou Advertising is a full-service advertising agency with over $20 million in billings.
