Vote for Reggie Bibbs to host SXSW Panel on neurofibromatosis.

Monday, August 17th, 2009

A friend of mine and Reggie Bibbs, Jason McElweenie, submitted Reggie’s name to host a panel for next years SXSW: “Becoming An Inspiration – One Pixel At A Time” http://panelpicker.sxsw.com/ideas/view/2339

The description is as follows:

Reggie Bibbs has been on a one man crusade to raise awareness for neurofibromatosis (NF) come listen to him tell his story and help you and your organization turn your clients and friends into raving fans for your company or group

A little refresher on how this works; This is a 3 step process. A panel is submitted and then placed in the PanelPicker where the public comments and votes on it. After the voting and commenting is done a group of SXSW insiders vote on which ones they like and the board at SXSW also votes on which one they like. If the public comments and votes a lot for this one we have a chance of swaying the other two parts of the in our favor so now we have to promote, promote, promote.

I hope this can further raise awareness for Reggie and NF, speaking to a crowd of early adopters can do nothing but help raise awareness. If this panel is selected I say we plan a sort of media blitz to make Reggie the unsung hero or face of the 2010 SXSW conference. First thing we need to do for Reggie is get him on Twitter I have registered his name http://www.twitter.com/reggiebibb

Can you send the PanelPicker link above to everyone you know and ask them to not only comment but also vote for the panel?

This would be an incredible experience for Reggie as well as a great boost to his mission to spread the word about neurofibromatosis.

If you could take a few minutes to help, it would mean the world to me and Reggie!

Thank you,

Lou

Houston Roller Derby Rocks!

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Tonight was the first night of Houston Roller Derby for 2009! What a great night to see all of our favorite skaters tonight either on the track or behind the microphones. Dementia. Mistilla. Jeckill & Heidi. DBC. And that newcomer, Speedo Racer.

It’s is so great to see these talented, young women doing what they love and having a blast doing it. Moreover, the thrill that they give the fans with their athleticism and talent, is unmeasurable.

Tonight, we played in the new venue for the HRD, Kicks, on Shepherd between Memorial and Washington. The first match was the Bayou City Bosses versus a new team from Corpus Christi. The final score was a little lopsided but it was great to see two teams, one extremely experienced and the other, not, play their hearts out for no pay but for the love of the sport. The second bout featured The Psych Ward Sirens vs. the Burlesque Brawlers. This match was very hard-hitting and exciting throughout. Dementia was back to her great old form scoring at ease throughout the night.

A great time was had by all. (more…)

Sheila Jackson Lee says, “Just Ask!”

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

I had a terrific meeting with Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee this morning!

Joining me at the Mickey Leeland Federal Building in downtown Houston this morning were Drs.Bart Moore and John Slopis from M.D. Andersen Cancer Center; Sandra Parker and her daughter, Emily,  Lou and myself. Sandra is a consumer reviewer for the research integration panel for the Department of Defense. She helps decide which NF research projects get funded based on consumer need and importance.

Congresswomen Jackson took time to meet with us even though she was hard-pressed for time having to fly back to Washington immediately after our meeting. I have to say she was great! She remembered me from a NF function years ago and was genuinely interested in everything we had to say. She seemed quite interested in our story (Emily’s and mine) and after getting all the information she needed,  told us that she would sign the petition to fund research for neurofibromatosis.

Congresswoman Lee also recommended other possible sources of funding that we should be aware of through the government. She will be signing on to keep funding research that will help neurofibromatosis, as well as other types of disorders that could lead to cancer. Everyone should be happy about that has happen today. All of us can benefit from this funding and from the wise support and leadership of Sheila Jackson Lee!         – Reggie

STANANDLOU and Reggie Bibbs win big for neurofibromatosis.

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Saturday night, Feb 21, 2009, was the 47th Annual Houston ADDY awards. It was the night of the stars. The American Advertising Federation honored Lou’s former boss, Don Brown, of Taylor Brown & Barnhill, while Only In Houston honored Steve Farrell, of Radio Music Theater, who is also one of the funniest guys I have ever seen. I met him after the ADDYs when Lou and I went to the theatre to present him with his award.  Steve is a great man and I was proud to meet him and his family.

But wait,  there were more winners Saturday night!

STANANDLOU and I won two gold ADDYs, one silver ADDY, and a Special Judges Award for Public Service Advertising for our new “Just Ask! ads! . That was a total surprise to me. I’m thankful that the work here on the Just Ask campaign is getting noticed. More people will learn about nf as we keep pushing forward. Thank you all for supporting the site with your visits.  SEE ALL THE ADS HERE.
